This is going to sound a little bit like a bit of a commercial for Basil...

In the previous [exits] that I was involved in, I wasn't all that impressed with the investment banker / M&A advisor.

It was the negotiation phase where having the advisor really helped in my case.

I was able to delegate a whole bunch of stuff to him, so I didn't have to think about it. It was very important for me to keep the business running and thriving.

Even more to the point, he came up with a number of creative ideas along the way that helped the transaction happen, and it just might not have happened if we hadn't gotten past a number of sticking points, and there always are some.

He's done this a lot of times, and I haven't really, so the experience he brought to bear on it was really helpful.

When we got together for lunch after the deal was closed ... I said "Basil that was absolutely amazing"... I think absolutely was the word I used wasn't it?

I had in mind what I wanted to get out of the exit. Not only did we hit a number that was the right number, it was how the deal was structured, that was just as important to me. It wasn't all about the money.

I wasn't looking to retire. I wanted to stay involved with the product and I wanted it to go to a good home. All of that worked out really well.

Having it cross border added it's own complexity. Again that's an area where Basil has experience and he was able to get us past some bumps.
